Allison McSwain, trumpet

Hailing from South Carolina, Allison McSwain moved to Las Vegas in 2009 to study trumpet at UNLV (MM–Trumpet Performance 2011).

Allison works as the Transfer Coordinator with UNLV Admissions, while maintaining an active musical life. She is currently pursuing a DMA in Applied Music–Trumpet Performance at UNLV.

She has been principal trumpet of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra since 2012 and has also performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Las Vegas Sinfonietta, UNLV Faculty Brass Quintet, Portable Masterpieces, and various churches in the Las Vegas/Henderson community. Most recently, Allison is helping launch a local chamber music ensemble, Argentum Chamber Works.

Allison’s primary teachers include Dr. Gary Malvern, Larry Black, Justin Emerich, and Steven Trinkle. In teaching, Allison seeks to help students develop the skills to make independent musical decisions while enjoying the process of music-making.
