Tianna Harjo, viola

Tianna Harjo is one of the most versatile players currently performing in Las Vegas today. She keeps quite a busy schedule performing, teaching and finishing her doctoral studies.

Mrs. Harjo recently finished a two-year run of the show “ShowStoppers” at the Wynn, Las Vegas. She is the founder of Elite Music Group, specializing in weddings, corporate functions, conventions and other events. She is a member of the Firenze String Quartet, which specializes in alternative music forms, such as jazz and pop tunes. She has performed up and down the Las Vegas Strip with international stars such as Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Seth MacFarlane, Hugh Jackman, Andrea Bocelli and many others. She has been an artist on many television specials including the Billboard Music Awards, the Latin Grammy’s, the American Country Music Awards, David Foster – the Hitman Returns and the PBS Special of The Opening of the Smith Center, among others.

In 2015, Mrs. Harjo began a pilot program teaching the violin to at-risk youth, in conjunction with the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. In addition to the program, she is a faculty member at the College of Southern Nevada, where she teaches both applied viola and violin lessons; and music appreciation. She is highly sought after as an adjudicator and clinician, having given clinics and masterclasses throughout the West Coast.

In 2009, she joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she taught Applied Viola, Chamber Music and String Methods. She left this position in 2014 to pursue her Doctoral Degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara under the tutelage of internationally renowned artist, Helen Callus.

In addition to playing, she creates custom arrangements by request for various ensembles internationally. Primarily Top-40, Rock and Country arrangements, but she is transitioning into Classical arrangements and transcriptions, hoping to contribute to the solo library of the viola primarily. Mrs. Harjo received both her Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Performance – Applied Viola from the University of Nevada, Reno. She is currently completing her Doctoral degree in Viola performance at the University of California, Santa Barbara and will graduate in June 2017.
